Sofia Richie isn’t the type to talk a lot about her two-year relationship with Scott Disick, who’s 15 years older than her (he’s 36 years old, while Richie is just 21). But for her cover story with Cosmopolitan, she did touch on the criticism of it and her feelings about their age gap.
Richie doesn’t care if people think it’s weird she’s dating Disick. As she put it, she has “this weird thing where I just don’t care what people think.” The criticism she and Disick get online “doesn’t bother me because I’m very happy,” she added. “Why would I let someone from the middle of nowhere ruin that for me?”
Richie didn’t talk about Kourtney Kardashian, Disick’s famous ex, directly. But she did give her advice for getting along with a significant other’s ex-partner.“I mean, just be nice. There’s no reason not to be nice,” she said.
But Richie was most chill about the age gap. The fact people make a big deal about it is on them, she told Cosmopolitan. She personally thinks it’s “great” that she’s dating someone older. Her parents had a similar age gap (18 years), and she considers them to be “perfection.” Cosmo added that Richie’s parents Lionel Richie and Diane Alexander do approve of her and Disick’s relationship. At one point, Lionel Richie wasn’t as into it—he considered it be just a phase.
“She’s 19,” he famously told Australia’s Daily Telegraph, via E! in 2017. “When you’re 19 you know everything. Is it going to be for life? I don’t know. But for right now it’s just a phase and I’m going to stand real still in the corner, get me a good drink, and not make too much noise.” It seems time softened that stance and made him take Scott dating his daughter more seriously.
