January 10 was a big day for Selena Gomez. After counting down on her Instagram, the singer finally reached the day that her new album, Rare was released to the public. The album has brought with it discussion of Gomez’s on-off relationship with Justin Bieber.
Gomez, who surely expected there to be lots of chatter about her album and what the lyrics on it mean, seemed to live in her own bliss yesterday. She posted lots of images showing her celebrating her new LP. On Twitter, fans posted photos of the singer blowing out candles on a cake with a photo of her decorating it, as well as cupcakes that appear to read, in red icing, “You are so rare!” Check out the balloons, too. Gomez’s team is really having fun with that word.

The Selena Gomez HQ page also posted a video from Gomez’s Instagram story of Gomez making a journey to target to buy her own album, only to find that it was old out (or so she assumed).

Another video, that might have been taken by Gomez herself, shows a house party, which appears to be filled with Gomez’s friends, at least one dog, and many decorations.

On Thursday night, along with her album, Gomez released the music video for her titular song “Rare.” It’s a very pretty, rainbow-filled video, but it’s also a pretty deep one. The song touches on themes of not feeling loved by the person who is supposed to love you most, and it definitely hints at her past relationship with Bieber.
At her iHeart Radio album release party Thursday night, she told the audience in attendance, via Entertainment Tonight, that “Rare” is “the song that I wish I could actually say personally to every single person. I think there’s so much going on. . .It’s just so much pressure. Everybody thinks that they have to look exactly the same and they have to do these things and the truth is, you don’t,” she said. “And I felt that way too. . .It gets in your head and this song is the opposite of that. . .It’s a song that says, ‘I know that I don’t have it all, but I do know that I deserve something special.’ That song is exactly how I feel. I won’t tolerate being treated any other way.”
