How Meghan Markle Felt After Stepping Back From Royal Family and Returning to Canada

Less than a month ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their intentions to step back from their senior royal family roles, then Meghan left London for Canada, where she reunited with baby Archie. Harry stayed in England, hammering out the details of their departure with the Queen, Prince Charles, and Prince William, over the next couple days.

People now has details about what Meghan’s first days back in Canada were like, along with how much changed in her once she and Harry went forward with their plan to carve out a more private life for themselves outside of the royal family.

“It was just this tremendous shift when Meghan returned to Canada [after their announcement],” a source told the outlet. “You could tell that she felt so much less stressed.” (You could also see it: in the first photos taken of Meghan after the Sussexit announcement, the Duchess was seen smiling and looking visibly relaxed while boarding a sea plane to Vancouver.)

These days, Meghan and Harry are settling into their quiet new life on Vancouver Island. They’re focused on their son now, a close friend told People: “Archie is the priority. It’s very much still about taking care of him and putting the family first. He’s a happy kid—he loves to laugh. Archie and Harry have such a good time together. And Meghan is a great mom. She’s very much about tending to him. They are trying to live their life as regular parents.”

People also reported that yes, Meghan and Harry really are looking at Los Angeles homes for the summer. (E! broke the news last week.) “They love being in Canada, but they are looking at houses in L.A. too,” a person in their circle said. “They’ll likely have houses in both places.”
