How Kate Middleton Is Celebrating Prince Louis’s 2nd Birthday in Quarantine

Queen Elizabeth II isn’t the only royal celebrating her birthday in quarantine this week. Kate Middleton’s youngest son Prince Louis turns two years old tomorrow. And while the family hasn’t publicly announced their plans, E! and Hello! report they are set to celebrate privately at their Anmer Hall country home, where Kate, Prince William, and their kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are socially isolating. Us Weekly adds that a bigger celebration had been originally planned, but the coronavirus pandemic changed everything.

“Unfortunately Kate’s had to call off Louis’ big birthday party because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the celebrations haven’t been completely canceled,” Us’s source said earlier this month. “They’ll just do something smaller with immediately family only.”

They plan to take advantage of their spacious property, the source added: “If the weather is nice, William’s planning to cook some chicken and burgers on BBQ and play outdoor sports and games as a family—football, chase and hide and seek. And obviously Louis will have a cake too! He’s so excited about his big day and is already singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to himself.”

Kate and William celebrated Louis’s birthday privately with family last year too: The only difference this year is because of the COVID-19 outbreak, no extended family will join them in person.

Kate revealed during her BBC interview last week that the family has been video chatting with their relatives, although Louis likes to hit the red button and hang up on everyone. “It gets a bit hectic, I’m not going to lie,” she said. “With a two-year-old you have to take the phone away. It’s quite hectic for them all to say the right thing at the right time without pressing the wrong buttons. But it’s great and it’s nice to keep in touch with everybody.”

Kate and William will likely share a new portrait of Louis on their Kensington Palace Instagram to celebrate their son’s big day publicly. They have done so for all of their children’s birthdays.

Louis’ cake will likely be baked by his mother. Kate spoke about how the kids were baking regularly with her. “Children have got such stamina,” she said. “I don’t know how, honestly. You get to the end of the day and you write a list of all the things you’ve done in that day. You’ve pitched a tent, take the tent down again, cook, bake, you get to the end of the day. They’ve had a lovely time. It’s amazing how much you can cram into one day, that’s for sure.”

Us was also told by a source that George, Charlotte, and Louis have been making cakes regularly with their mom. “Kate bakes and decorates cakes with the kids [on] the weekend to keep them entertained,” the source said. “The kitchen is always a complete mess by the end of it, but it’s all part of the fun—that’s how Kate sees it.”
