Emma Roberts and her boyfriend Garrett Hedlund have not personally confirmed reports that Roberts is expecting her first child, preferring to keep her status private. But Us Weekly spoke to a source who shared a little about the couple’s feelings about the news and whether they know if they’re having a baby boy or girl.
Us was told that Roberts and Hedlund had been planning to take “the next step” in their relationship, but the pregnancy wasn’t expected. “They are surprised, shocked and happy at the same time, and so are their families,” the source said.
The couple knows “the sex of the baby. They’re keeping it private for now,” the source added. “They haven’t picked out any names yet.”
Roberts and Hedlund were first romantically linked in March 2019 when they were photographed holding hands in Silver Lake. In January 2020, a source told Us Weekly that the two were not that serious at the time. “They are not talking an engagement or marriage at the moment,” the source said. “They like hanging out and going out together, and their relationship is more fun than serious.”
Roberts spoke to Cosmopolitan for its May 2019 cover story about choosing to keep her love life and breakups private. “I never want to talk about relationships I’m in or that are ending or have ended,” she said. “It’s hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience. Growing up is hard. Sometimes it makes me sad that I can’t have a private moment. Because of Twitter and Instagram, there’s a whole other element where everybody can comment on what you’re doing and no one knows the real story. That’s hard.”
