Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop products are never boring. If anything, the annual Goop holiday gift guide is the best part of the end of the year. There are jade eggs and 22k gold tobacco pipes; the options are endless! All year, Goop offers ridiculous, fabulous gifts—now that selection apparently includes a candle that apparently smells like a vagina.
The $75 candle is actually called “This Smells Like a Vagina,” so at least shoppers know exactly what they’re getting with this scent. It’s unclear whether Paltrow is saying this candle smells like her vagina, or just, ya know, vaginas in general.
According to the Goop website, Paltrow and perfumer Douglas Little were working on a new fragrance and Paltrow suddenly said, “Uhhh… this smells like a vagina.”
Apparently, general vagina smell, according to the site, is “a blend of geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar absolutes juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed that puts us in mind of fantasy, seduction, and a sophisticated warmth.”
Sophisticated warmth! We will take it.
Paltrow, Goop, and vaginas are often mentioned in the same sentence, to be fair. In 2016, Paltrow talked about her experience with vaginal steaming.
“The first time I tried v-steaming, I was like, ‘This is insane,’ she told the Cut. “My friend Ben brought me and I was like, ‘You are out of your fucking mind. What is this?’ But then by the end of it I was like, ‘This is so great.’ Then I start to do research, and it’s been in Korean medicine for thousands of years and there are real healing properties. If I find benefit to it and it’s getting a lot of page views, it’s a win-win.”
Then there was the yoni egg. This is a jade egg that Goop marketed as a product that was used as “Chinese concubines” to “both strengthen pelvic muscles for better sex,” and to help people with vaginas “increase sexual energy, health, and pleasure.”
Doctors refuted this claim, so there was definitely pushback to the jade yoni egg. But we were talking about it, weren’t we?
