Selena Gomez went viral this weekend for talking very candidly on The Kelly Clarkson Show about how awful her first kiss with Dylan Sprouse was. Dylan’s twin Cole responded promptly—mocking his brother, of course—but Dylan remained silent until Sunday evening, two days after the story broke. Dylan made a self-deprecating joke about it on Twitter. It’s a move that’s very on brand for a Sprouse twin.
Dylan shared a screenshot of the Daily Mail’s Instagram Story about it, captioning it, “Yo get that pic of him in the fedora to really sell the message.” The headline said “kissing Dylan was ‘the worst.'”

Those weren’t quite Selena’s words but she did call it one of her “worst days.” Selena, for reference, explained she had a huge crush on Cole at the time. She was 12 and guest-starred on the twins’ Disney Channel show, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
Her character’s on-screen kiss with Dylan, “it was my first kiss. That was one of the worst days of my life.”
“Your first kiss was with a stranger and an actor?” Clarkson asked.
“On camera,” Gomez said, laughing.
Selena talked to Tiger Beat in 2009 about what made it so horrible: “I actually leaned in to kiss him, and I had my eyes closed a little too early and I ended up missing like half of his lip,” she said, via Entertainment Tonight. “So it ended up being the most awkward kiss in the world. But I was 12 so it was okay, and it was good. And thank goodness he’s such an awesome guy.”
