The first look at 2021’s biggest surprise couple Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers together is here. Photos were released yesterday of the actress and Green Bay Packers quarterback boarding a private plane as they prepared to leave Mexico’s Costa Careyes on March 29, where they spent a couple days on vacation.
Woodley wore a gold and black print blouse, Converse sneakers, black leggings, and her engagement ring (of course) to travel, while Rodgers was in gray joggers, a white top, black hoodie, and sneakers with a blue bandana tied around his neck. Woodley wore a mask, while Rodgers did not, despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Woodley confirmed the news that she’s engaged to Rodgers at the end of February during her appearance on The Tonight Show.
“I mean I’ve been reading that too [that I’m engaged to Aaron Rodgers], it’s kind of funny,” she started, joking to host Jimmy Fallon. “Yes, we are engaged, we are engaged. But for us, it’s not new news, you know, so it’s kind of funny, everybody right now is freaking out over it, and we’re like, yeah, we’ve been engaged for a while. Yeah, we got engaged a while ago. It’s been—he’s, first off, just a wonderful, incredible human being, but I never thought I’d be engaged to someone who threw balls for a living. I never thought as a little girl, ‘yeah. I’m going to marry someone who throws balls, yeah!’ But he’s really just so good at it, and I’m really impressed. He can throw fast balls, he can throw slow balls, high balls, low balls. When I first met him, I think my dog like pulled me aside and was like, ‘if you don’t date this dude, I will disown you as my mother because the three feet that I run with you when you throw a ball is nothing compared to the marathon I’m able to run with him.'”
A source spoke to E! in February about why the two got engaged so fast after spending the fall dating and living together. (The two have yet to reveal when exactly they started dating, but Rodgers’ breakup with his last girlfriend, Danica Patrick, was reported in July 2020, and Woodley spoke about being single in April 2020.)
“They had a very intense connection from the beginning,” E!’s source said. “They both knew early on that it was something special and different from what they had experienced in other relationships. It’s a quick engagement, but for those that know them, it didn’t come as a surprise.”
“They have spent the entire fall together and lived together throughout,” the source added. “She is very supportive of his career and embraced his life in Green Bay. Even though she has her own career and life, she wanted to be there with him. Over the next year, they plan to spend some time traveling and enjoying a warmer climate.”
People got intel from a source close to Rodgers about how his friends actually were a little shocked at the rapid-fire romance initially. “It was a surprise that they got so close so quickly,” a source close to Rodgers told the outlet last month. “I mean, it really felt like one day he was with Danica Patrick, and then suddenly he was with Shailene. It happened super fast.”
“It was so fast that at first, we thought she was just a rebound,” the source continued. “There was no way this could be so serious. Everyone thought it was a casual thing because that’s what he was telling everyone, even when it was clearly not a casual thing. Now we realize that it was clearly a lot more serious than they told anyone. All this goes to show that this must be a very special relationship for him and for her. So everyone wishes them happiness.”
