But behind palace walls, private conversations between members of the Royal Family following the bombshell revelations in Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah continue to dominate the headlines.
Gayle King revealed that she spoke to Harry and Meghan over the weekend following Oprah’s explosive interview a week ago, and Harry has now had a chance to speak to his father and brother, Prince Charles and Prince William.
“The word I was given was, those conversations were not productive. But they are glad they at least started a conversation,” King, who is anchor of CBS This Morning and a friend of the Sussexes, shared.
A friend shared with ELLE.com that Harry and Meghan want the process of healing to begin “for their own health as much as anything else. They felt they needed to have these conversations so they can move forward and highlight some important issues as well.”
The couple will continue to highlight mental health through Archewell, with a source telling ELLE.com, “mental health will be a key focus of their work going forward.”

Following Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah where they spoke about mental health and racism, the couple’s Archewell non-profit announced it was partnering with several organizations tackling online hate speech and seeking to promote racial justice, including mental health charity Mind and civil rights non-profit Color of Change. A source close to the Sussexes shared Archewell’s “global mission is to unite communities and drive systemic change by unleashing what we believe is the defining cultural force of the 21st century: compassion.”
There is hope that these conversations will ultimately allow the family to move forward. “I think that’s very similar with his process with his brother Prince William,” a friend of the Sussexes shared. “He is very open to that, and I don’t think they’re saying they wanted to cut all this off. Quite the opposite.”
“I think what is still upsetting to them is the Palace keeps saying that they want to work it out privately but yet they release false stories that are very disparaging against Meghan still. No one in the Royal Family has talked to Meghan yet,” King said on her program CBS This Morning.
The Palace announced that they would open an investigation into bullying after royal sources leaked emails to the UK Times newspaper just days before Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah was set to air. The Duchess of Sussex’s lawyers vociferously denied the allegations and said not only was the timing suspect but that they were a “calculated smear campaign” meant to discredit Meghan before she was able to do the in-depth interview with Oprah.
Many individuals are questioning why the Royal Family has called for a very public bullying investigation of Meghan, hiring an outside law firm to investigate matters, yet has failed to investigate claims of racism, which are much more serious. Instead, the Palace vowed to address them privately within the family. Harry and Meghan, notably, told Oprah a family member, who they refused to name, had expressed concern over “how dark” their son Archie’s skin color might be. The Palace has not addressed that claim publicly and seemingly indicated last week they won’t be.
Two days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview aired, The Queen issued a 61-word statement, which said, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
