Meghan Markle to Moderate the 19th Represents Virtual Summit

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is ready to make her hosting debut.

Today, it was revealed that the duchess will be participating in the 19th Represents Virtual Summit next week. Rather than preparing a written address or taking part in a panel discussion, however, Meghan will be in the interviewer’s chair, hosting a conversation with The 19th’s cofounder and CEO, Emily Ramshaw, surrounding the topics of gender, representation, and the future of news-based media.

“The 19th*’s commitment to reporting and storytelling that lifts up those who are too often underrepresented in the media has never been more important,” said Meghan in a statement to Glamour magazine. “I’m looking forward to asking the co-founder what it means to build a media outlet with gender equity, diversity, and community at its core.”

According to Glamour, Meghan’s appearance will close out the summit—which marks the centennial of women’s right to vote in the United States—and will take place on Friday, August 14. Other notable speakers and personalities who will take part in the five-day event include Hillary Clinton, Stacey Abrams, Kamala Harris, Melinda Gates, Alicia Garza, and Meryl Streep.

Though the summit will mark Meghan’s first time as a host, speaking engagements have become a new component of the duchess’s day-to-day work life since stepping away from the royal family earlier this year. In June, she and husband Prince Harry signed on to be represented by New York–based Harry Walker Agency, with Meghan incorporating virtual addresses into her life while working from home.

Last month, Meghan gave an impassioned speech as part of the Girl Up Leadership Summit, encouraging today’s young women and girls to remain outspoken on matters of gender and racial equality in America and across the globe.
