Many of Selena Gomez’s friends yesterday wished her a happy birthday on Instagram. But fans of the singer think that her ex-boyfriend The Weeknd may have given her a special public gift too. The Weeknd released the music video for “Snowchild” yesterday, on Gomez’s birthday. Fans recognized immediately that Gomez had called “Snowchild” out twice publicly as one of her favorite songs right now.

In March, Gomez included “Snowchild” on her quarantine entertainment music list. “Here are some things that I’ve been watching, listening to, and reading to keep me positive and help pass the time. Hope it helps!!” she wrote in her first Instagram Story before sharing the song list.
In April, fans noticed that “Snowchild” also appears on Gomez’s special Spotify Cooking Together playlist.
Gomez and The Weeknd dated from January 2017 to October 2017. Gomez told Billboard that they ended their relationship on good terms in an interview published in late November 2017.
“The best part [of being single]?” Gomez started. “It’s actually… you know what, though? Something that I’m really proud of is that there’s such a true friendship [between me and The Weeknd]. I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring [for each other], and that was pretty remarkable for me.” The two have kept their relationship largely private in the years since.
Fans were ecstatic on Twitter about the prospect of The Weeknd subtly giving Gomez (and the rest of his fans) something special on her birthday. One fan wrote, “Selena Gomez: Snowchild is my favourite song. The Weeknd: Release Snowchild video today. Today = Selena Gomez’s birthday. You want me to believe it’s a coincidence? Hell nah!”
