Rihanna has been teasing her fans about her upcoming new album, R9, for months now. The artist and fashion mogul has said in the past that she enjoys trolling her fans about when her new music will finally be released, but on her Instagram Live Friday night, she made it clear that a pandemic is not the time to be bugging her about her album.
“If one of y’all motherfuckers ask me about the album one more time when I’m tryna save the world, unlike y’all president….on sight!,” she said, per The Daily Mail. Back in December, before the term “social distancing” was common vernacular, Rihanna shared a video of a dog bobbing its head along to House of Pain’s “Jump Around” with the caption, “Update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it.”
These days, Rihanna seems a little more focused on helping with the current coronavirus pandemic than on releasing new music. Her foundation, the Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF), donated $5 million to coronavirus relief efforts in March. Rihanna also stepped up and donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to New York State.
“I want to thank @rihanna and the Rihanna Foundation for donating Personal Protective Equipment to New York State,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweeted on March 26. “We’re so appreciative of your help and that of so many others who have stepped up.”
Last week CLF and Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation donated a combined $2 million to help undocumented workers, the children of frontline health workers, first responders, and incarcerated, elderly, and homeless populations in New York City and Los Angeles.
This week, CLF, together with Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey donated $2.1 million each to the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles to help domestic violence survivors who are are at risk during the city’s current stay-at-home order.
So, hold tight, Rihanna fans. She’s a little busy right now.
