At last year’s Commonwealth Day service, Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton joined Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, in the Queen’s procession, standing as the Queen arrived last in the church. This year, the couples won’t be part of that pomp and circumstance at Westminster Abbey.
The Telegraph reports that neither Meghan and Harry or William and Kate will be part of the Queen’s procession this afternoon. The couples will instead be seated when the Queen arrives.
During last year’s procession, Meghan and Kate were photographed and filmed hugging as they greeted each other in the church. It was a big viral moment that dispelled rumors the two duchesses were feuding at the time.
Today’s Commonwealth Day service is Harry and Meghan’s final event as working senior royals. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will begin their formal transition out of their roles on March 31. The couple will shortly return to Canada, where their son Archie remains and the two have been living since they announced their intention to step back from their royal duties.
A source told ELLE this weekend that Meghan and Harry will be working on big plans in the weeks ahead. “Moving forward, the focus for the couple goes back to preparations for their non-profit organization and numerous charitable endeavors—Harry busy with the next stages of Travalyst and Meghan working on at least two new projects,” the insider said. “They’re stepping into unchartered territory but couldn’t be more excited about the year ahead. It’s the new chapter they’ve been longing for.”
