Margot Robbie’s big award season run ends at tonight’s Oscars, and the actress saved one of her most stunning looks for last. Robbie stepped out on the red carpet wearing a vintage strapless navy Chanel dress with a jewel pendant and cuff sleeves. She wore her hair down and opted to walk solo. Robbie has a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Bombshell. Her film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood also has a Best Picture nomination.
One of Robbie’s biggest moments of the season came last weekend, when she attended the BAFTAs and delivered Brad Pitt’s acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor. He couldn’t make the show at the last minute, so she had to be the one to make a joke about Prince Harry leaving England—in front of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
“Brad couldn’t be here tonight due to family obligations, so he asked me to read his response for him,” Robbie began. “He starts by saying, ‘Hey Britain. Heard you just became single. Welcome to the club! Wishing you the best for the divorce settlement, blah blah blah.’ He then says, ‘Thank you to the Academy for this extreme honor.’ He says he’s ‘always been a bit intimidated over here given the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the titans that have come before, so this is especially meaningful.'”
Robbie said Pitt’s thank you’s for him, then ended the speech with his Harry zinger. “He’s gonna name this [award] Harry, because he’s really excited about bringing it back to the States with him. His words, not mine, thanks!”
Robbie later said that she was so nervous about doing Pitt’s speech that she forgot about preparing her own. “[Brad], like the night before, was like ‘Can you do my speech for me? I can’t be there,’ and I was so panicked about his speech that I didn’t even think about preparing one for myself,” she told Good Morning America on Tuesday. “I was up for two, for both films in my category, and it wasn’t until I was in the car on the way there that I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I hope I don’t win, because I don’t have anything to say.'”
