Eastman and Axilone create a sustainable crystal-clear resin for premium beauty

Axilone, a manufacturer of high-end beauty packaging solutions specializing in plastic injection and aluminum transformation, and Eastman, a global producer of polymer materials, have co-created a recycled and recyclable crystal-clear resin with a glass-like shine.

This innovation offers new opportunities for brands aiming to reduce the environmental footprint of luxury cosmetic packaging.

A new recyclable and recycled reference

Named Cristal One Renew IM812, this new resin is part of Eastman’s Cristal One portfolio. It has been designed to deliver copolyester-like performance in a recyclable (RIC1) material.

Cristal One IM812 and Cristal One Renew IM812 have received the RecyClass Recyclability Approval and are classified as fully compatible with the state-of-the-art recycling processes for PET bottles in Europe.

According to Axilone and Eastman, the new resin thus offers a unique combination of benefits for beauty brands: it is recyclable and made of up to 100% certified recycled content [1], with no compromise in color or performance. It blends the properties of a sustainable material with the possibility to produce thick parts with very high transparency and gloss levels.

It offers the possibility of developing multiple applications for all segments of the sector: closure solutions for skincare and fragrance, packaging for makeup and skincare, etc.

Cristal One Renew IM812 not only meets the high aesthetics, touch and feel standards demanded by top brands but also supports their sustainability commitments,” said Tara Cary, Global Marketing Manager Cosmetics at Eastman.

In our opinion, this new resin is very promising because it meets several criteria to which we are particularly attached and for which we are a driving force for proposals for our customers: recyclability – with the choice of materials that fit into established recycling channels, the possibility of single-material designs of varying thicknesses, and the integration of certified recycled materials, without compromising on aesthetics and high-end perception,” added Reynald Trochel, Innovation Director at Axilone.
