The long-awaited second season of Squid Game will premiere on Netflix in December.
The streaming company revealed the release date for the upcoming season of the Korean drama with a track-and-field-inspired teaser on Wednesday, July 31. The series will also return for a third and final season in 2025.
It has been nearly three years since Season 1 launched on Netflix and became a global success with 111 million viewers in the show’s first 17 days on the platform. “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year,” Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said of the show’s worldwide appeal. “But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever.”

The nearly minute-long teaser showed men and women wearing the iconic green tracksuits screaming and falling while racing each other. Then the camera pans to a view of the Front Man, who says, “It’s been three years. Do you want to play a game?”
A teaser released in February showed him answering a phone, as the caller tells him, “You’re going to regret the choice you made.”
The hero answers, “I will find you. No matter what it takes.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk also provided his own teaser in an open letter to fans.
“Seong Gi-hun, who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1, returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either,” he wrote. “The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”
Hwang added that he is “thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story.”
He ended his letter by promising fans that “we’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride.”
The first season of Squid Game ranks as the most-watched season of television in Netflix history. The series received 14 Emmy nominations with six wins. These include a win for Hwang for best director for a drama series, one for Lee Jung-jae for best actor in a drama series, and another for Lee You-mi for best guest actress in a drama.
Besides Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun (Front Man), Wi Ha-jun (Hwang Jun-ho), and Gong Yoo (The Salesman) will also be back.
