Facial contouring is a technique of applying cosmetics to correct and highlight facial contours. This technique has long been considered an integral part of the daily self-care routine. This accessible non-surgical method of emphasizing advantages and hiding disadvantages has become so common that the appearance of a similar procedure for hair was only a matter of time. In order to correct certain areas of the face, colorists and hairdressers strongly recommend dyeing hair using the contouring technique. The technique is difficult to perform and requires skill and experience from the master, so hair contouring is an exclusively salon procedure. The popularity of this technique is explained by its effectiveness and the ability to adapt to absolutely any face shape and skin tone.
Depending on the desired final result, there are several options for coloring using the contouring technique:
Strobing
The purpose of strobing is to restore healthy shine and radiance to hair, emphasize a tan or shade porcelain skin. In essence, strobing is similar to highlighting, however, the differences are significant:
- lightening occurs by 1-2 tones to achieve maximum naturalness;
- The strands to be lightened are selected based on the shape of the face, and the transition from one color to another is necessarily smoothed out.
Flash effect
This type of contouring creates an imitation of bright highlights, which usually appear from camera flashes. Light contrasting strands are interspersed with the main hair color along the contour of the face, refreshing the image and performing the functions of a highlighter.
Melting dyeing technique
Smooth stretching of the transition from the original color to the additional one, which adds volume to the hair and softness to the image. The effect of color melting is achieved by coloring several mixed shades.
Underlighting
A way to add a bright accent without radically changing the color of your hair and your image as a whole. Only the lower strands are dyed, which are not visible at all under the main mass of hair and only when moving, styling or doing your hair do they give a beautiful effect of mixing contrasting shades.
Combination of colors
This method helps to create a complex, memorable image by skillfully combining three or more colors. One color should remain bright, while the others are designed to complement and balance the palette.
