Ben Affleck Asks His Ex J.Lo Where She’s ‘Keeping the Fountain of Youth’

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck called off their engagement 17 years ago in 2004. Can you believe it’s been nearly two decades since Bennifer was a thing? Although these two haven’t been together since the second Bush era, they still appear to be good friends.

For InStyle’s May cover story on Lopez, Affleck, who was interviewed along with several A-listers including Michelle Obama and Donatella Versace, complimented his ex:

“Where are you keeping the fountain of youth? Why do you look the same as you did in 2003 and it kind of looks like I’m in my 40s…at best?,” he asked, addressing Affleck.

Lopez responded, “I don’t have any [beauty] secrets except JLo Beauty—and I’m giving them all to everyone with every product. Ben is funny! He still looks pretty good too.”

He also spoke about what it was like to work with Lopez on Gigli (2003): “I thought I had a good work ethic, but I was completely humbled and blown away by what she was committed to doing day in and day out, the seriousness in which she took her work, the quiet and dedicated way she went about accomplishing her goals, and then how she would go back and redouble her efforts. She remains, to this day, the hardest-working person I’ve come across in this business. She has great talent, but she has also worked very hard for her success, and I’m so happy for her that she seems, at long last, to be getting the credit she deserves.”

Affleck and Lopez met while filming Gigli in 2002, and they got engaged that fall.

“I had cried a lot over sadness over the years,” Lopez told Diane Sawyer in an interview following the engagement. “And for the first time in my life, I cried incredible purging tears of happiness.”

A decade later in 2014, Lopez told Maria Shriver for Today (via Us) that that breakup was a formative moment in her life. After she and Affleck ended things, Lopez began dating Marc Anthony, with whom she now shares twins, Max and Emme, now 13.

“It was probably my first big heartbreak, and to have one of my best friends who I’d known for years, who I actually love and did have chemistry with, come into my life and say, ‘I’m here’…What you need to know is, nobody can save you or heal you,” she continued. “Only you can do that for you.”
