Princess Diana’s 1981 wedding dress was designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel [AP].One of the most stunning pieces from the late Princess of Wales’ stunning collection is undoubtedly her July 29, 1981 wedding dress. The gown was designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel and featured a roughly 25-foot long train. The ivory silk taffeta fabric gown with antique lace gave the gorgeous piece an incredibly romantic and truly timeless appeal. On the day she married Prince Charles, Diana completely encapsulated what it means to be a princess, wearing a stunning wedding dress to match her new title.
Princess Diana’s iconic off-the-shoulder black gown from her White House visit in 1985 [AP].As Diana matured into her role as Princess of Wales, as well as come into her own as a young woman and mother, she got far more daring with her style. In the above photo taken during her and Prince Charles visit to the Regan White House in 1985, Diana wore this Victor Edelstein dress that became part of photographic history. Dubbed “The Travolta Dress” the gown earned its epitaph when actor John Travolta danced with Princess Diana at the White House. The garment featured a fitted frame that hugged Diana’s figure with a mermaid-style skirt. Diana accessorized the classic dress with a gorgeous pearl choker featuring a sapphire in the middle — a necklace she wore again roughly nine years later.
Princess Diana’s memorable LBD worn in 1994 [AP].1994 was a pivotal year for Princess Diana, as issues with her and Prince Charles’ marriage came to light. She wore this classic Little Black Dress by Christina Stambolian during a party given at the Serpentine Gallery in London. She paired the daring dress with sheer black tights and black heels. The low-cut, off-the-shoulder dress showed off Diana’s frame, and at 5′ 10″, Diana looked like an absolutely statuesque in the frock.
Of the many indelible marks that Princess Diana left prior to her tragic August 1997 death, her influence on fashion is undoubtedly one of her greatest.
