Five years ago, Caitlyn Jenner came out publicly as a transgender woman on the cover of Vanity Fair. And while there was some initial drama with Kim and Khloé Kardashian after Caitlyn (formerly Kris Jenner’s ex) released her memoir The Secrets of My Life in 2017s, peace has largely returned. People marked the five-year anniversary of Caitlyn’s debut by interviewing Caitlyn and Kris’s daughters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
Kendall and Kylie spoke in detail about what their relationship with Caitlyn is like now and how things changed for the better after her transition.

“When my dad came out as transgender, our relationship grew,” Kendall said. “She could finally be honest with me. We could talk about deep emotions she was feeling through that time. Growing up, my dad was not usually one to talk about her feelings so that was a big step for us.”
Kendall called herself a “daddy’s girl,” and said their relationship gets stronger everyday. She has always looked up to Caitlyn, she added: “Because of my dad’s bravery, I’ve learned to love what I love and not be ashamed of it. She’s been my role model since before I can even remember, from sports growing up to now with her wisdom. She’s so brave and I aspire to be as brave as her one day.”
Kylie echoed Kendall’s awe, saying, “My dad has always been an inspiration to me, from winning the gold medal at the Olympics to getting her pilot’s license. However, watching her live out her true self has been the most inspiring of them all.”
Kylie spoke to Harper’s Bazaar earlier this year about what their day-to-day relationship is like. “My dad was the best growing up,” she said. “Never missed a sports game. Took us to school every day, and our school was like 45 minutes from our house.” Kylie added that she talks to Caitlyn “like every day. Except I couldn’t talk to her for three or four weeks when she did that show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!. I watched clips online. It was hard to be out of touch for that long, but I feel like it was harder for her because she couldn’t see us.”
