Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend Cody Simpson gave a candid interview to the Sydney Morning Herald about his stance on relationships. He spoke about how dating Cyrus has changed him—then touched on a topic he hasn’t really spoken about in years: how his relationship with Gigi Hadid shaped the way he looks at love.
“When it comes to relationships, I do like to be in them, but I’ve had some time alone, too,” he said. “In order to have a successful relationship, you have to know how to be your own person. You don’t want to be half a person trying to find another half to complement you.”
“I dated Gigi Hadid for two years and have always enjoyed being with independent women who are strong individuals,” he continued. “I have never really been heartbroken in the deepest sense, but I have been disappointed in relationships.”
Then he touched on Cyrus and his stance on marriage:
“Being with Miley is a wonderful thing in my life,” he said. “She is creative and inspiring, fiercely independent and encourages me to be my own person, too. We are both creative individuals who support one another with our work. Miley also inspires my art. There’s some romance in the poems I have written and yeah, they might be about her. It’s inevitable that what happens in my private life comes out in my work.” (Simpson read one of his poems about Cyrus publicly to her on her Instagram Live program Bright Minded.)
Simpson admitted that he isn’t about to propose to anyone at just 22 years old. “I believe in marriage but haven’t thought too much about that,” he said. “I am far too young to consider it, to be honest. I just continue to surround myself with positive women who inspire me and teach me new things every day.”
