On Friday night, John Krasinski hosted a special event on his new YouTube channel, SGN (Some Good News), for any high school seniors out there who are missing their prom this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. He invited some special guests to the celebration, including his The Office co-star Rainn Wilson, Chance the Rapper, the Jonas Brothers, and Billie Eilish, none of whom attended their actual high school proms. “I’m excited; I’ve never really been to prom,” Elish said on the video.
This would have been the year for Eilish, 18, to attend her senior prom, so this was a particularly special moment for her. Eilish was famously homeschooled before her career took off, so prom wasn’t necessarily something she’d been planning on anyway. Eilish and her older brother, Finneas, tuned into the live-stream to perform their hit song “Bad Guy” for teens who were tuning in. The song starts just after three minutes.
Krasinski, who started the SGN channel to bring some good news to everyone quarantining at home exclaimed, “Thank you so much for doing this! It happened. These kids just got a prom!”
Eilish, who is a big fan of the U.S. The Office and even sampled audio from the series in her song “My Strange Addiction,” gushed to Krasinski about how much she loves him.
“You know how big of a fan I am of you! Everybody knows! Thank you for being you, John,” she said.
Krasinski, who spoke to fans with streamers and disco lights in the background, ended his prom with the classic, “We Are Family.”
He added, “You guys are missing a whole lot of things, and we couldn’t let prom be one of them. It’s the weirdest thing in the world, but you know what? When you thought you were missing your prom, and your mom and your dad and your brother and your sister all said, ‘Oh, I remember my prom,’ you now get to say, “Oh, really? Did Billie Eilish play your prom? Did the Jonas Brothers play your prom? Did Chance the Rapper pop into your prom, and did Rainn Wilson ruin your prom?”
