Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Reportedly Want to Stay in Los Angeles This Summer

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties have given them the luxury of living abroad—and if things work out, in the United States this summer. E! reports that Meghan and Harry really want to spend summer 2020 in Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles. It would be their son Archie’s first extended stay in the U.S.

A source told E! that “they have started to look at homes online and are in the process of interviewing security teams. They are getting their ducks in a row and seeing if it’s logistically possible. They’ve reached out to people in L.A. and would like to assemble a team of locals.”

Meghan, the source added, is “is hoping to find something that will fit their needs,” The Duchess specifically wants a property that would allow her “to do meetings at the house and also be able to host friends and entertain. Those are two things that are important to her.”

Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland lives in the California city. Royal reporters originally speculated that during Meghan and Harry’s six week break from royal duties in November, the couple spent time in the United States. There was talk they intended to spend Thanksgiving there or Christmas. But in reality, Meghan and Harry were in Canada, where they remain now.

In her first statement on Meghan and Harry’s future as royal family members, Queen Elizabeth II said that the couple will live in Canada and the UK during their transition period. “It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK,” she said. “These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”

Meghan and Harry were more vague in their original statement about where they’d like to live, saying, “We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honor our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”
