While some celebs opt to spend time in frosty Aspen for their New Year vacations, Selena Gomez traveled to some place tropical…and coincidentally, has presidential company. Gomez is in Hawaii with friends this week, and was photographed lounging in a green Wanderlust bikini on a yacht on Tuesday. While she isn’t hanging with Barack Obama, the former president was also photographed in Hawaii this week, shirtless and paddleboarding. Great minds think alike when it comes to the best January vacation destination.
Gomez’s friend Raquelle Stevens shared a group photo on her Instagram Story from their trip, which Selena Gomez fan account TheSelenaRundown captured:
Gomez’s Hawaiin vacation comes one week before her new album Rare is released. Gomez began her January by posting dozens of photos and videos depicting her year with friends in 2019. Gomez is very careful about how much she shares and was off social media for most of last year. Her Instagram Stories are a rare glimpse at her private life.
Gomez spoke last year on Stevens’ show Giving Back Generation about how much her close friendships with Stevens, Ashley Cook, and Courtney Lopez mean to her. The three girls are all on vacation with Gomez in Hawaii right now.
Here’s what Gomez said about her friends:
I think for me, when I met all of you—and I’ve said this a million times to you but for other people that are watching—I needed you guys. You know, I’ve done this since I was so young. But in the crucial years of my life, where I was trying to navigate who I was with people I surrounded myself with, just figuring out those next steps, but what you guys have done for me is allowed me—you’ve opened my eyes. You’ve allowed me to be myself, but if we have any sort of issue or if there’s something going on, you guys were the first people to show me unconditional love. And I’ll never forget that because it was the first time, genuinely [aside from my parents]…With friends, it was finally someone telling me the truth but not punishing me for it. It was coming from a place that says, “Hey, we love you, and this is—we want to bring this up or talk about it,” and then in general, you just taught me how to love people and how we do it. We got to go amazing places together, and you’ve all kept me very sane, and you’ve all helped me keep going. I ask for your advice on everything. I tell you everything. And you have—you are 100 percent a huge part of where I am and how I am.
