The Photography Show is one of the most prestigious photo fairs in the world with over 45 years of history in New York. The event brings together leading galleries, collectors and photographers from around the world, one of whom this year is Ukrainian photographer Oleksiy Zakhov. Zakhov is the winner of numerous international awards, including the Aesthetica Art Prize, and was also recognized in the Best of Photo Basel project and by The Guardian. A graduate of the Kyiv School of Photography, he represents a new direction in contemporary Ukrainian art on the world stage. The central aspect of his practice is the creation of underwater sculptural forms from ocean waste, which he photographs directly in the marine environment.

Through these striking images, the artist addresses important themes such as biodiversity loss, overconsumption, and the fragile balance between human activity and nature. His work combines a minimalist aesthetic with ecological reflection, transforming photography into a tool for close observation and rethinking the relationship between humans and the ocean.

Zakhov's approach is based on straight-up photography without digital processing. Using a medium-format camera in a special underwater housing and studio lighting underwater, he captures the ocean as it truly is—fragile, mysterious, and almost otherworldly.
Through his work, Alexey Zakhova invites viewers to look deeper, slow down, and rethink the profound and often underappreciated connection between humanity and the underwater world.

This year, the fair also marks an important milestone: its 45th edition, consolidating its status as the longest-running exhibition dedicated to photography. To maintain its relevance, AIPAD is emphasizing the concept of “discovery”, introducing a new “Focal Point” sector dedicated to solo presentations by artists, as well as a special focus on Latin American photography.
