Sex is not a reason for divorce

A few days without sex proved fatal for one Spanish couple. The head of the household sued his wife after she refused to perform her marital duties for five days straight. In his statement to the Seville court, the plaintiff stated that he considered his wife's five-day refusal to perform her duties as “cruel treatment,” which should be punished by law. Such “offensive behavior,” according to the man, humiliated him. However, the court was not satisfied with the plaintiff either. The judge did not even consider the case and dismissed it “for lack of evidence.” According to the priest of the law, the term “cruel treatment” is most often used in cases where a husband beats his wife, but not when a wife refuses to make love to her husband. The only thing the bachelor could get was advice from the judge to “devise more acceptable methods to regain his wife's favor.”

Narodniye Novosti decided to find out how Russians' imaginations work in this regard, but it turns out we don't have to rack our brains to end up in splendid isolation. In our country, the most important thing is dividing property, asserts lawyer Evgeniya Sazonova: “Our law doesn't require clear reasons for divorce. Therefore, while in other countries you have to establish and prove it, here it's simple: if you don't want to live with your spouse anymore, you can file a lawsuit, and they won't bother digging too hard about the reasons.”

Continuing the discussion of unconventional divorce cases, we can't ignore Italy. There, a husband has the right to demand a divorce if his wife forces him to wash dishes or do other housework. A Milanese woman recently objected to this, but the court deemed the wife's actions a serious violation of the law and granted the husband's request for a divorce. In Japan, however, a complaint from the head of the household that his wife sleeps in an unflattering position can serve as grounds for divorce. In India, to prevent such situations and reduce the divorce rate, they decided to create a special school where young girls are taught proper behavior with their future husbands for three months. Several thousand Indian women have already received the certificate of maturity for family life. Will they be able to find a worthy partner? That is the question.
