Scientists from the University of Missouri in the United States conducted an experiment on the effects of scents on women during sleep. It has long been proven that the brain functions more efficiently during wakefulness, while during sleep all mechanisms slow down, including olfactory perception. As it turns out, the impact of sexual scents remains just as strong as during active brain activity, according to lead researcher Peter Trent.
A study involving 280 women aged 20 to 32 showed that so-called scents of love evoke vivid erotic dreams. Various scents of natural aphrodisiacs were released into the room where the women were sleeping for 10 minutes. The same experiment was performed while the women were awake. The researchers then compared the sensations the women experienced while asleep and while awake.
It turned out there was no significant difference. The reaction to the piquant aromas was identical, with sexual desire being the same. Moreover, the most arousing effects were produced by the scents of bergamot, rosemary, and sandalwood. Cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger evoked the least desire. It's undeniable that ambient air mixtures have a pronounced effect on emotional intensity in any setting.
