Agatha Christie is the queen of detective stories for a reason: her captivating stories remain as captivating on both the big and small screens. A striking example of this is the new Netflix series “The Seven Dials of Agatha Christie”, a three-part adaptation of the 1929 novel “The Secret of the Seven Dials”, starring BAFTA winner Mia McKenna-Bruce. The plot is built according to the classic canons of the genre: the brilliant 1920s, the deep English province, a noisy party is raging in a luxurious estate. But in the morning one of the guests does not wake up. What at first seems like an unsuccessful joke turns out to be a brutal murder – and this is only the beginning. In fact, this death is only the tip of the iceberg, the first fragment of the puzzle, which, when completed, will expose a large-scale conspiracy. The investigation is taken up by Bundle – that is, Lady Eileen Brent, an energetic young aristocrat with a knack for constantly getting into trouble.

The Mystery of the Seven Dials is a 1929 novel by Agatha Christie that has been adapted into a film several times. In the book, the main events revolve around Superintendent Battle, while in the TV series, the emphasis is on the female protagonist and her ability to solve a murder.
Mia McKenna-Bruce, known for her breakthrough role in How to Have Sex, is joined by Helena Bonham Carter as her indifferent bohemian mother Lady Caterham; Corey Milechrist (“Bridgerton: A Queen Charlotte Story”) as the heroine's great love, Jerry; Nabgaan Rizwan and Edward Blumel as her friends; and Martin Freeman, who plays Scotland Yard detective Battle, who investigates the case alongside Lady Brent.

The real star of the series is undoubtedly Mia McKenna-Bruce, whose name is worth remembering, as we will see her on the big screen more than once. Mia is 28 years old and is best known for the films “Persuasion” (an adaptation of the Jane Austen novel) and the coming-of-age drama “How to Have Sex.” For the latter, she won the British Independent Film Award, the BAFTA Rising Star Award and was nominated for the European Film Award for Best Actress.

In Agatha Christie's Seven Dials, she plays a quick-witted, quick-witted young woman who will stop at nothing to get her way. She also brilliantly reflects the jokes of the respected and experienced Scotland Yard detective played by Martin Freeman, demonstrating an extraordinary temper and sense of humor. It seems that no one could have played the role of Eileen Brent better than her.
The series is also worth watching for the costumes. The show's creators transport us to bohemian London of the 1920s with its glamorous parties, and the main character appears in elegant cocktail dresses, soft knitwear, tweed and checkered cloche hats.
