Ryan Murphy has released a trailer for American Love Story, which tells the heartbreaking story of the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr., the son of President John F. Kennedy, and Carolyn Bessette. The video literally transports you to the 1990s, the time period in which the series is set, with its minimalist fashion, sophisticated men's suits, and red lipstick on the women.
Recall that John F. Kennedy Jr. and Caroline Bessette met in 1992 thanks to Kelly Klein, the wife of designer Calvin Klein, with whom Caroline worked at the time. They began dating in 1994. In the trailer, John F. Kennedy Jr. (played by Paul Anthony Kelly) is presented as “the most eligible bachelor” in America. At the same time, Caroline Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon) appears as a confident and independent young woman who has risen through the ranks at Calvin Klein and quickly became the designer's confidant. It is to her that John F. Kennedy Jr. turns for style advice – and so the courtship begins. When Bessette picks up a new suit for him, their eyes meet, and the spark between them becomes undeniable.

“Being with someone like that is a lot of compromise,” says Bessette's friend, as Caroline is bombarded with camera flashes and curious glances. “Brilliant people belong to everyone.” As Bessette begins to learn what life as a first-time family entails—from front-page headlines to dinners with the nation's most prominent people—she realizes how much their lives will have to change if they want to be together. That love story was tragically cut short in 1999 when John, Caroline, and her sister, Lorraine, died in a light-engine plane crash over the Atlantic Ocean.

The series will pay considerable attention to fashion, as both characters had impeccable style, and their public appearances were always the focus of tabloids and fashion publications.
“American Love Story” will be released on February 12th.
