The film “Stranger Than Paradise” can rightly be considered one of the most important in Jarmusch's work. The plot of the film is very minimalist and tells the story of friends Eva, Willy and Eddie , who are simply looking for adventure. Despite all its simplicity, the film changed the attitude towards independent cinema and provided Jarmusch with the status of the savior of the American indie scene. For such merits, “Stranger Than Paradise” is considered one of the most influential films of the 20th century, and it was also included in the US National Film Registry.
“Outlaw” ( 1986 )

” Neo -beat noir comedy” (as Jarmusch described his film) tells the story of the unhappy interconnected lives of three bad guys: a shrewd pimp Jack, an unemployed radio DJ Zach , and an Italian tourist Bob. The director's exceptional style, interesting characters, and vision create excellent competition for any Hollywood film.
“Mystery Train” ( 1989 )

This film consists of three stories connected by a hotel in Memphis and the spirit of Elvis Presley. Like many of his works, Jarmusch presented this film at the Cannes Film Festival. There, the film won a prize for artistic contribution. “Mysterious Train” was another turning point in the director's work. Critics point to a visible improvement in Jarmusch's skill, in particular, they emphasize the film's well-written script.
“The Deceased” ( 1995 )

Tired of social themes, Jarmusch decided to make a historical film, imbued with his philosophy and American mythology. Accountant William Blake goes into hiding after killing a man and meets a strange North American named Nobody, who prepares him for a journey into the spiritual world. At one time, “The Deceased” with Johnny Depp in the lead role was Jarmusch's most expensive project .
“Broken Flowers” (2005)

“Broken Flowers” is a tragicomedy starring Bill Murray and is one of Jarmusch's most successful directorial projects , winning the “Grand Prix ” at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. It is the story of Don Johnson, who receives an unsigned letter. It says that he has a 19 -year-old son. Don decides to visit his former lovers and find out who the news is from. With a first-class cast, including Frances Conroy , Alexis Zena , Jessica Lange, Sharon Stone and Tilda Swinton , perfectly combined with Jarmusch's minimalism and Murray's good performance, the film is definitely worth watching. “Broken Flowers” is probably the director's film, where gentle humor and restrained style will charm and calm even his tired opponents.
“Only Lovers Left Alive” (2013)

A fantasy project for which Jarmusch spent 7 years raising funds. This is the story of the ancient vampires Adam and Eve. According to the plot, Adam (Tom Hiddleston ), an underground musician, reunites with his beloved ( Tilda Swinton ) after he falls into depression because he does not understand modern humanity and everything that is happening in the world today. Their idyll is destroyed by Eve's uncontrollable younger sister ( Mia Wasikowska ). The beauty of the film lies not only in the excellent script and the wonderful acting. This film is a whole collection of allusions to many cultural images. Critics say that they are proposing to compile a special guide to study it in film schools.
