Production on the fifth season of Bridgerton has officially begun, and for the first time, it will focus on the love story of two women. We'll also be introducing new characters – here's a closer look at them.
At the center of the fifth season is a new love story: between Francesca, the heroine of Anna Dodd, who recently lost her husband, and Michaela (Masali Baduza) – the beloved cousin of her late husband, John Stirling.
The synopsis states: “The fifth season of Bridgerton focuses on the Bridgertons' introverted middle daughter, Francesca. Two years after the loss of her beloved husband, John, Fran decides to re-enter the marriage market for practical reasons. But when John's cousin, Michaela, returns to London to look after the Kilmartin estate, Fran's complicated feelings force her to question whether she should follow her pragmatic intentions or follow her inner impulses.”

Francesca is further described as “reserved and withdrawn, who has always felt out of place in the world. When Michaela awakens new feelings in her, Fran makes discoveries about herself that could change everything.” Of her lover, they add: “Behind Michaela's charming and lively exterior lies a vulnerable young woman who is quick to flee when she feels uncomfortable. But this season, Michaela will have to face her vulnerability head on, as she is forced to deal with her late cousin's legacy – and her relationship with Francesca.”
This news has raised a number of questions: Will Eloise get a starring role in season six? What else will happen during this two-year time jump? How quickly will the identity of the new Lady Whistledown be revealed? And who else will appear in the new season?
As for the last question, we now have some answers — a new trio will join Anna Dodd and Masali Baduza.
They are Tega Alexander from The Sandman as Christopher Anderson, the son of Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis' character) – a “Regency Casanova” who is dashing but has “an inner insecurity that threatens to destroy him”; Jacqueline Boatswain from Carnival Row as Helen Stirling, Michaela's energetic and assertive mother; and Gemma Knight Jones from Mobland as Lady Elizabeth Ashworth – Michaela's longtime friend and confidante who helps her settle into London.
The fifth season of “Bridgerton” will be released in 2027.
