Keira Knightley, an actress with a wonderful sense of taste and a knack for good roles, turns 41 today, March 26. Vogue.ua recalls the 5 most stylish films starring Keira Knightley, one of which is worth watching tonight.

“King Arthur”

This film was not included in the review by chance. In “King Arthur” Keira Knightley plays Guinevere – the lover, and later the wife of King Arthur, who greatly influenced his fate. The role is not the most famous in the actress's biography, but it can be traced to the evolution of the images that Knightley addresses. Her Guinevere, on the one hand, is the “muse” of the Middle Ages, and on the other – a warrior who never parted with her bow. A face painted with symbolic tattoos, a leather suit consisting of thin stripes, sandals – the image of a medieval warrior befits Keira Knightley.

“Pride and Prejudice”

In 2005, this work began Keira Knightley's collaboration with an important director for her, the British Joe Wright, who cemented his fame as the author of large-scale costume films and adaptations of great literature. By the way, Wright initially did not plan to invite Keira Knightley to the role of Elizabeth Bennet; he needed an actress with a more “boyish” appearance and character. In the end, Keira Knightley was nominated for an Oscar for the role of Elizabeth Bennet in the film adaptation of the cult novel by Jane Austen, and the fact that the director really loved his actress is shown by the strong close-ups – there are many of them in “Pride and Prejudice”. The costumes for the film were designed by Jacqueline Durran, Joe Wright's constant partner. According to Keira Knightley, Durran always takes into account the character of the heroine, which is why Elizabeth Bennet wears light and airy dresses made of cotton and lace.
“Atonement”

The second costume film with the already formed trio: Joe Wright, Keira Knightley and Jacqueline Durran. The film adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel, set in the 1930s and 1940s, brought the team two Golden Globes and seven Oscar nominations, including one statuette. The costume designer was also nominated for an Oscar, and Atonement is still considered one of Durran's strongest works. Knightley's heroine, Cecilia, wears a romantic but already modern wardrobe that cannot help but change on the eve of major historical events: pastel blouses and skirts, striped robe dresses, and, of course, a floor-length emerald silk dress with thin straps that reveals the shoulder line – and she has an army of fans.
“Colette”

“Colette” is a 2018 biographical drama about Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, one of the first feminists in world history. “I agreed to this role because it is important to me to play women who inspire,” says Keira Knightley. “And it bothers me that today, in 2018, the right to choose is still a 'revolutionary idea' for women.” Knightley's character, Sidonie Colette, was the wife of the popular writer and critic Henri Gautier-Villard. She wrote a series of novels for her husband, which Henri published under his own name. In 1906, Colette divorced and began her own literary career, performed at the Moulin Rouge, wrote a libretto for an opera by Maurice Ravel. In 1949, Colette became president of the Goncourt Academy, was nominated for the Nobel Prize and was considered one of the most influential women in French culture. The costumes by Andrea Flèche are an example of the Belle Époque style, but given that the heroine was a feminist. She dresses in a tomboy style: black and white culottes, simple blouses, cropped jackets, and then a men's suit.
“Consequences”

The drama “Aftermath” tells about life in post-war Hamburg. The plot centers on an Englishman, Colonel Lewis Morgan, who has become the commandant of the city and is responsible for its restoration. Together with his wife, they settle in a house where a German architect and his daughter also live. A romance breaks out between Lewis's wife, played by Keira Knightley, and the German architect. The British actress's colleagues on the set were Alexander Skarsgård and Jason Clarke.
