Warm weather can awaken feelings that seemed long gone. After a winter that lasted forever, when everyone was wrapped in gloomy sheepskin coats and bulky sweaters, heavy in both color and weight, spring has finally arrived. It's time to shed those dark clothes and start looking for light things in bright colors, including a colorful 1980s-style windbreaker.

Most people's wardrobes for outerwear that's more serious than a light rain are usually black. And it seems designers have sensed this need for dopamine-inducing hues in advance: there's a lot of bright, yet stylish, off-season outerwear available in stores and online.
Bright nylon jackets are a staple of Saint Laurent's spring/summer 2026 collection. The brand's windbreakers were worn by Charli XCX in her viral debut campaign for the French house and by Hailey Bieber at a show in Paris. In bold color combinations, they're styles that step outside the box, yet remain understated enough to appeal to even those who typically shy away from color.

Miu Miu is, of course, one of the original sources of the bright outerwear trend. On the Casablanca men's catwalk, two-tone jackets in loose silhouettes were one of the most noticeable pieces. Dries Van Noten's spring-summer 2026 collection, created by Julian Klausner, featured lightweight jackets for changeable weather in subdued grays and browns. When they opened, you could see linings in pastel stripes in the spirit of rugby sweaters and mint green linings with a floral pattern.

If two-tone still seems too bold, there are plenty of bright, solid-tone options too. Lacoste, for example, showed rubberized jackets in a rich orange, while Kent & Curwen, a brand that knows how to create clothes for capricious weather, presented voluminous silhouettes in royal blue. But the most attention was drawn to a nylon pullover with a short zipper in a deep azure shade from Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez's debut collection for Loewe. This is further proof that even when you have to dress for the weather, you don't have to adopt its mood. A little dreaming of the blue sky, as well as clothes in its colors, can radically change your mood.
