During fashion month, the street chronicle is so saturated that it is inevitable that key trends will emerge – especially among the models walking around the city in between shows. A year ago, at this time, it was plaid skirts, polo shirts and biker boots. This season, just look around and you will see a veritable sea of loafers. Especially soft, pleated ones, most often in shades of brown or black, with a vintage feel and paired with straight jeans. And, of course, we will not be silent about it.

Loafers with soft drapes began to rise rapidly in the hierarchy of shoe trends last year, gradually replacing the more structured, massive models of previous seasons. Miuccia Prada can be thanked in large part for popularizing this style. It was Miu Miu's brown, slightly crumpled loafers that became one of the brightest accents of the spring-summer 2025 season, as well as Prada's loafer-slipper hybrids with their delicate, flexible shape. Last year, Harry Styles repeatedly appeared on the town in glossy chocolate loafers with soft pleats from The Row. And now this style has received the unquestionable approval of models off the catwalk.

It's not hard to see why these loafers have captured the attention of street stylers. They're softer and more relaxed than the stiff models of yesteryear, but they still add a sense of poise and refined elegance. In a way, they've taken over the niche that sneakers once occupied in our wardrobes: just as comfortable and easy to style, but with a decidedly more intelligent character. So if you're on the side of diluting your shoe wardrobe with non-sneakers, make room in your looks for soft loafers.
