How the Romanian capital became one of Eastern Europe's key fashion hotspots

Mercedes-Benz Bucharest Fashion Week, which took place in Bucharest from March 24 to 28, once again proved that it is one of the most important fashion events in Eastern Europe today. For Romania, it is the first international event of this scale, and for the entire region, it is already a prominent platform where designers, industry representatives, media, clients and the professional community meet.

This season was important not only because of the shows themselves. Mercedes-Benz Bucharest Fashion Week is consistently developing as an event that combines fashion, education and the exchange of professional experience. That is why the first day of the program was dedicated to Next Generation.

The Let's Talk Fashion and Beyond conference featured discussions on education, brand development, retail innovation, space management, and legal issues in the creative industry. The program also included a First Steps to a Creative Business workshop and Creative Lab Sessions, where participants worked on product development, visual storytelling, and retail concepts.

Mercedes-Benz Bucharest Fashion Week strives to be not only a beautiful event, but also a professional platform and support for regional brands.

The shows took place in the Throne Hall of the National Museum of Art of Romania. The space itself also worked for the overall impression of the season – it set the right tone for the entire program: solemn, but not excessive; historical, but not frozen. Against this background, the main themes of the collections were especially clearly read. Many brands spoke about strength, memory, femininity, inner balance, protection, form and materials, but each did it in their own way.

This season, the program also included Ukrainian brands GUDU, J'amemme, and TTSWTRS. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz Bucharest Fashion Week itself deserves special attention, as it increasingly shapes the image of Bucharest as an important fashion hub in Eastern Europe.

In its collection, the Alexandra Șipa brand addresses themes of cultural identity and memory. It is a very personal work, in which childhood memories, seasonal images and Romanian symbols are combined with modern experimental methods of creating clothes. The brand works with a sustainable approach not only at the level of ideas, but also in techniques. In particular, recycled cables are transformed into lace-like structures. It is in such details that the strength of this collection is revealed.

The brand does not work with dramatic effects, but focuses on restraint, respect for craft and the desire to create things that last more than one season. Against the backdrop of sharper and more emotional collections at Mercedes-Benz Bucharest Fashion Week, this one stood out precisely for its practicality.
