Two decades in the past, pilot season was a significant arena for performers and production entities in Hollywood. Today, a series is fortunate if it secures a renewal for an additional season, let alone multiple. Amidst an ever-shifting entertainment panorama, the television segment of showbusiness has endured considerable setbacks, and numerous cherished programs have faced termination in 2026 by one of the foremost streaming services: Netflix.
Following the triumph of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers presented audiences with an adult-oriented series, The Boroughs, which was terminated after a single installment. Viewers were aware that the creative ensemble had envisioned the show continuing for at least three seasons, thus the cancellation news came as a surprise.
Below, discover which Netflix series have been discontinued by the streaming giant this year.
The Abandons
The Abandons, a Western drama featuring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, was featured in the Netflix Top 10 for English-language shows for two weeks. However, this was insufficient for the streamer to greenlight a second season.
The Vince Staples Show
Concluded after two seasons, the comedic series The Vince Staples Show garnered critical acclaim but failed to capture a substantial viewership. The satirical program drew loose inspiration from Vince’s personal experiences.
The Boroughs
The series created by the Duffer Brothers was cut short following its inaugural season, which did not maintain a broad audience in comparison to its predecessor, Stranger Things. The initial intention was for the program to span at least three seasons, as previously stated by the creative team. In a May 2026 discussion with IGN, showrunner Jeffrey Addiss mentioned they had “a very specific three-season plan, and we think we know the last shot of the last scene of the last episode.”
“The path to get there may shift slightly, but we have resolved all queries and possess a roadmap for when and how to address them,” Addisss commented. “We aimed for season 1 to provide emotional closure while leaving certain matters unresolved. We genuinely desired for you to feel as though you experienced a complete narrative, in the event that this is all we receive. Should it prove successful, we would be delighted to share more about the unfolding events.”
Terminator Zero
Despite earlier indications of plans for a five-season run, Terminator Zero concluded its journey on Netflix after just one season. Creator Mattson Tomlin attributed the cancellation to insufficient viewership.
Class
Although a second season for Class had been announced, Fiction Horizon reported that the show was discontinued after its initial run. The series chronicled the lives of students at an exclusive private institution in India.
Emily in Paris
Emily in Paris was not abruptly canceled, strictly speaking, but enthusiasts were dismayed to discover that its sixth season would mark the conclusion of the series.
