Enthusiasm for Scream soared to unprecedented levels following the debut of Scream VI. During its initial weekend, Scream VI surpassed the series’ previous earnings, accumulating $67 million at the box office, and stood as the second installment showcasing a fresh ensemble of performers, notably Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. However, in November 2023, Melissa was ousted from the Scream VII roster. The actress faced dismissal due to her remarks concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza. Shortly thereafter, it came to light that Jenna would also forgo participating in Scream 7, having exited the project. That same month, the quintessential survivor, Neve Campbell, verified her inclusion in the forthcoming movie, reprising her iconic portrayal of Sidney Prescott.
At long last, we have a sneak peek for Scream 7! Hollywood Life is dissecting all the details we’ve gathered regarding the continuation below.
Will There Be A Seventh Installment of ‘Scream’?
Indeed, Scream VII is officially in development. The fifth Scream entry arrived in cinemas in January 2022. Following its triumph at the box office, Scream 6 swiftly gained approval. The filming of the sixth Scream movie was conducted expeditiously, spanning from June to August 2022. The production of Scream 7 experienced delays because of the 2023 strikes involving writers and actors.

Who Composes the ‘Scream 7’ Ensemble?
Riding on the achievements of Scream VI, it was largely anticipated that Scream 7 would mark the comeback of Scream’s “Central Quartet,” encompassing Jenna as Tara, Melissa as Sam, Mason as Chad, and Jasmin as Mindy. Each one successfully navigated their most recent confrontation with Ghostface.
Nevertheless, the Central Quartet has diminished to a “Central Duo” subsequent to Melissa’s dismissal and Jenna’s choice to exit the undertaking. Merely Jasmin and Mason are set to reappear post Scream VI.
Melissa’s termination unfolded a month prior to the widespread dissemination of the news, subsequent to her sharing of social media postings addressing the conflict in Gaza. It’s worth noting that prior to her dismissal, reports indicated that her agreement to partake in Scream VII had supposedly reached its conclusion.
“Spyglass’s position is unambiguously defined: We harbor absolutely no leniency towards antisemitism or the promotion of animosity in any guise, notably incorporating misleading allusions to genocide, ethnic eradication, distortion of the Holocaust or any content that markedly transgresses into the sphere of hate speech,” Spyglass, the entity steering the Scream production, issued in response to Melissa’s expulsion.

Rumors suggest that Spyglass chieftain Gary Barber supposedly opines that “prominent figures or lavish remuneration aren’t pivotal” for the prosperity of the Scream saga. “He bypassed Neve, and he’s prepared to move forward without Jenna,” disclosed an insider to THR. Speculation was rife that Scream 7 was poised to conclude a “purported trilogy centered around the Carpenter sisters.” Although certain sources maintain that the franchise’s trajectory is in “disarray” and “exceptionally precarious,” the prospect of a complete overhaul looms.
Hayden Panettiere’s much-anticipated comeback as Kirby Reed established a foundation for further integration of the cherished character moving forward. She endured another stabbing by Ghostface, yet survived. She extended an offer to Tara and Sam, suggesting they reach out “whenever” assistance might be required. Kirby served as the quintessential nexus connecting the revered original characters with the fresh additions.
Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers likewise endured yet another ferocious onslaught from Ghostface. Courteney stands as the singular original Scream personality to grace all six existing productions, and her involvement extends to the seventh film.
Matthew Lillard eventually disclosed that he will, at last, revive his role as Stu Macher in Scream 7! In March of 2025, reports emerged that David Arquette, celebrated for his rendition of Deputy Dewey Riley, who met his end in the fifth installment, would be reclaiming his character.

Mirroring its predecessors, Scream 7 is expected to introduce a new cohort of supporting characters to the narrative.
The newcomers set to appear in the seventh film include McKenna Grace and Anna Camp.
Will Neve Campbell Make a Return For ‘Scream 7’?

Following her non-appearance in the sixth movie, Neve revealed that she has endorsed the resumption of her role as Sidney for Scream VII.
“Sidney Prescott is making her comeback!!!!” she affirmed in a March 2024 Instagram statement. “The opportunity to embody Sidney within the ‘Scream’ series has consistently been both a joy and a privilege. My affection for these productions and their profound impact on my journey has remained constant. It brings me immense joy and pride to convey that I have been extended a respectful invitation to resurrect Sidney on the screen, a prospect that fills me with elation.”
She further added, “While I’ve experienced extraordinary fortune collaborating on these cinematic ventures with the maestro of terror, Wes Craven, and the prodigiously gifted Matt and Tyler tandem, I’ve cherished a prolonged aspiration to helm one of these narratives under the stewardship of [visionary] Kevin Williamson. Presently, that dream is materializing. Kevin Williamson is designated to helm Scream 7! This endeavor was birthed from his imagination, and his genius has sculpted this realm. Beyond his artistic brilliance, Kevin has remained a cherished confidant over the years. To our devoted Scream enthusiasts, I trust your anticipation mirrors my own. I anticipate reuniting on set @kevwilliamson.”
The Scream community reeled in June 2022 when Neve divulged that she would be forgoing her engagement as Sidney Prescott in Scream VI.
“Regrettably, I shall not be partaking in the forthcoming Scream rendition,” Neve communicated in an issued declaration. “As a woman, I’ve diligently pursued the affirmation of my worth within my professional sphere, particularly within the Scream context. I perceived the proposition presented to me as incompatible with the worth I contribute to the franchise.”
Neve’s void resonated throughout Scream 6. She was casually mentioned in the aftermath of the recent string of Ghostface aggressions. Gale disclosed that Sidney would abstain from traveling to New York. Sidney and Mark escorted their offspring to a secure enclave, seeking shelter from Ghostface’s menace.
Is Stu Macher Still Living?
That question is worth a king’s ransom. The original perpetrator, Stu, seemingly perished in the inaugural Scream movie, succumbing to stabbings and electrocution after a television cascaded upon him. Nevertheless, a dedicated faction of Scream devotees tenaciously clings to the prospect that Stu somehow evaded death, maintaining a clandestine existence for the intervening duration.
Scream 5 briefly showcased Stu’s nephew, who was summarily eliminated by Ghostface. The decisive face-off unfolded within Stu Macher’s ancestral abode, mirroring the original events.
Scream 6 directly referenced Stu Macher. Encased within the Ghostface shrine’s repository, the Central Quartet and cohorts encountered emblematic relics from historical slayings, prominently featuring the television purportedly responsible for Stu’s demise. Upon Kirby’s invocation of the television’s role in Stu’s end, Mindy retorted, “Assuming one believes in his demise.”
Scream’s original scribe, Kevin Williamson, has declared Stu’s demise as absolute. “Without question, he’s deceased. That speculation arose from the college scene, specifically the frat gathering, where he’s spotted lurking in the backdrop. He merely attended the set as a visitor that evening,” he clarified to Collider.
The contemporary Scream collective refrains from definitively ascertaining Stu’s fate. “There’s no conclusive answer, hence my perpetual refusal to either affirm or repudiate such matters,” James Vanderbilt confided to Variety. Producer William Sherak appended, “All outcomes remain feasible.” Producer Paul Neinstein further expounded, “Characters can permeate in myriad ways! The phenomenon is integral to their lives, fostering an affinity for Scream.”
Even if Stu is deceased, he retains the potential for re-emergence akin to Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis, who has manifested in Sam’s consciousness across the recent two installments. Should Stu conceivably linger, it would constitute the quintessential twist. Scream 7 could echo Scream 3’s leitmotif: the echoes of antiquity invariably resurface to haunt.
However, considering Matthew’s return, the modalities of these portrayals remain shrouded in ambiguity.
