This episode not only left viewers stunned but also affected the cast, with Wilmer hinting at a “significant overhaul” coming in season 24.
“You know, every few years, NCIS needs to ensure it keeps you engaged. So, we adjust the narrative slightly, and we pay attention,” Wilmer shared with People in June 2026. “We consider the direction our viewers want the series to go. Therefore, we consistently focus on what our audience desires to experience in the show.”
The actor elaborated, “So, if you’re asking me to guess, I believe a substantial transformation is underway, and the first episode will bring both… I don’t want to face repercussions for this. Let me risk it. How about this? Next season, there will be considerable alterations and several new additions. What does this imply for Torres? I can only hope he survives.”

During his conversation with People in June 2026, the actor, formerly of ‘That ’70s Show,’ suggested that the season 23 finale would trigger a “major shakeup.” He also noted that even the creative team has not yet determined the fate of his character and Keleher’s.
“Frankly, I don’t believe we’ve resolved that yet,” Valderrama admitted, adding, “I don’t think we have a clear idea. I inquired, ‘What do we want from it?’ but I can tell you that someone is injured, and viewers might not react favorably.”
