Why Did Morgan Wallen’s Pittsburgh Concert Get Postponed?
Morgan stated that the prevailing weather circumstances were the reason behind the cancellation of his June 6 concert.
“Following discussions with local authorities and my team, there is no alternative but to cancel tonight’s event due to severe adverse weather anticipated for the remainder of the day and night,” he communicated in an Instagram Stories announcement. “Ensuring the safety of my fans and crew is our paramount concern.”
In a subsequent video shared on Instagram Stories, Morgan emphasized that local officials had advised his team to cancel his show.
“This morning, my team entered the bus and informed me they had been in consultation with local officials and that I should cancel my show in Pittsburgh tonight, and I inquired, ‘Why?’” the Tennessee native recounted in the clip. “They cited impending strong winds in the vicinity, and I responded, ‘Understood.’ Consequently, that is the action I took at that moment, placing my trust in my team.”
Morgan reiterated the “reality of the situation,” which is that he operates with “a substantial stage that, under such conditions, could pose a fatal risk to many individuals nearby. Therefore, I acted to the best of my ability with the information available to me at that time.”
Was There Inclement Weather in Pittsburgh That Evening?
Although Morgan’s team was informed by officials about incoming high winds, attendees expressed frustration when the weather improved. Many criticized Morgan for the cancellation, with numerous individuals voicing their disapproval on social media.
KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin tweeted that evening, “Urgent update: Widespread anger regarding the Morgan Wallen show cancellation! Acrisure stadium officials are furious. Sources indicate… Wallen departed the city via plane before the meeting even took place and insisted they announce the cancellation after he was airborne [sic].”
The online outcry also brought attention back to Morgan’s contentious on-stage incident the preceding week, where he overturned a piano due to technical malfunctions.
Morgan addressed the criticism surrounding his concert’s cancellation in his Instagram Stories video, dismissing the backlash as “baseless.”
“I’ve encountered a considerable amount of baseless commentary about me that is demonstrably false, and I felt it necessary to clarify the situation,” Morgan explained in the video. “I believe my genuine supporters understand that this is not my typical modus operandi, but I felt compelled to speak out.”
