But a noteworthy figure is absent from the offshoot series: Monica Dutton, portrayed by Kelsey Asbille in the original Paramount Network production. Following the revelation of Monica’s passing, followers questioned the rationale behind the creative minds’ choice to eliminate her character.

Why Isn’t Kelsey Asbille in Marshals? Explanation Behind Monica’s Death
Luke communicated to Entertainment Weekly that Monica was written off to supply Kayce with renewed drive and added “drama” during his evolution.
“The manner in which Yellowstone concluded for Kayce was that he literally rode off into the horizon,” Luke conveyed to the outlet during an interview after the premiere of Marshals season 1. “So, as he and the imaginative squad commenced debating the narrative underpinning Marshals, it became evident that something needed alteration. Naturally, we can’t simply observe this individual relishing his idyllic existence. There’s an absence of conflict.”
Luke proceeded by declaring that “something” needed to transpire to interfere with Kayce’s flawless existence, “Otherwise, what reason would he possess to assume a position of authority? The last occasion we caught sight of him, he was discarding his designation in an open space. Is he intending to retrieve it?”
Regardless, Luke acknowledged that he wasn’t anticipating uncovering that Kelsey’s persona would be eliminated.
“I wasn’t anticipating that at all upon receiving the communication that that was their concept,” the performer expressed. “And I felt a pair of emotions concurrently. One being that I felt profoundly disheartened since Kelsey is one of my cherished companions and amongst the most outstanding talents I’ve collaborated with. We share a tight bond, and initially, I couldn’t envision executing it in her absence. I thought, ‘That’s nonsensical. Kayce and Monica are synonymous. They are one.’ But I also came to the realization that, indeed, there is a substantial narrative to be unveiled.”
Executive producer Spencer Hudnut further clarified the group’s thinking concerning Monica’s departure.
“It was vital to attempt to pay homage to that figure,” Hudnut pointed out. “And additionally, to utilize her passing as an avenue to emphasize an actual concern that is being encountered by reservations. … She passed, which explains Tate’s aspiration to attend the gathering, which elucidates Kayce’s participation in the gathering. And hence, she essentially directs his trajectory.”
Will Kelsey Asbille Reappear as Monica in Marshals?
It remains vague whether viewers will be privy to past recollections of Monica in Marshals, but producer Hudnut informed EW that the character’s “existence and essence will endure across this production.”
“She’s such a significant component of Kayce Dutton’s essence that she will accompany him along his trajectory,” Hudnut included.
