Who would have imagined that a 4chan thread and YouTube would serve as the inspiration for a full-length horror film? A24 has unveiled its newest thriller, Backrooms, in cinemas, and viewers are curious if they should remain seated after the credits conclude for an additional scene.
Speculation on social media often arises whenever a new, popular movie premieres. So, does Backrooms indeed feature a post-credits sequence? Here’s what you should be aware of if you’re planning to watch the unsettling flick.
What Is Backrooms About?
Backrooms centers on a therapist tasked with finding her missing patient. Under the direction of YouTuber Kane Parsons, marking his directorial debut, the film draws partial inspiration from his found-footage anthology series on YouTube.
In 2019, a 4chan user invited others to share “disquieting” images that resonated deeply with them. At the time, one individual contributed a photograph of a yellowish room, reminiscent of the setting in the 2026 horror movie.
“If you’re not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you’ll end up in the Backrooms, where it’s nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in,” the 4chan user described the image. “God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you.”
Is There a Post-Credits Scene at the End of Backrooms?
No. Backrooms does not present a mid-credits or a post-credits scene. You are free to exit the theater once the movie concludes.
