Kane Parsons, a British YouTuber and director, is adapting Backrooms into a horror film through A24 and Blumhouse. Showcasing a lineup of accomplished actors, the forthcoming found-footage picture is anticipated to premiere in cinemas this spring.
The inspiration for Backrooms originated from a 4chan post in 2019, where one individual requested fellow users to upload images that provoked a feeling of unease. A user responded by sharing an image depicting a room with a yellowish tint, which is the starting point for Backrooms.
“If you don’t tread carefully and inadvertently escape reality in the incorrect locations, you’ll find yourself in the Backrooms, a place defined by the stench of stale, damp carpet, the unsettling ambiance of mono-yellow, the constant buzzing from fluorescent lights, and approximately 600 million square miles of randomly arranged, desolate rooms where you could become stranded,” the 4chan user described the image at the time. “May God have mercy if you detect a presence lurking nearby, for it has undoubtedly detected you.”

Who Are the Actors in the Backrooms Film?
Chiwetel Ejiofor takes the lead role in the horror movie, co-starring alongside Renate Reinsve. Other actors appearing in the movie are Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell and Avan Jogia.
Chiwetel has been in a multitude of movies, such as Love Actually, Four Brothers, Children of Men, Endgame, 2012, Salt, The Martian, Doctor Strange and Venom: The Last Dance. As for Renate, she recently played a part in Sentimental Value, a film that was nominated for an Academy Award, and also was in Presumed Innocent prior to that.
Regarding the remaining actors, Mark most recently starred in The Morning Show and has also co-written and been a part of the Creep film series and its TV version, The Creep Tapes. Finn appears in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Lukita is currently featured in Shrinking. Avan is widely recognized for his character in the teen sitcom Victorious and most recently played a part in 56 Days.
