According to the premise, Backrooms presents audiences with a chilling, “other dimension.” This forthcoming A24 sci-fi, found-footage horror flick, drawing from a concept originating in a 2019 4chan thread, promises to leave spectators in a state of unease. With a stellar ensemble, enthusiasts eagerly anticipate how the central characters, Renate Reinsve and Chiwetel Ejiofor, will drive the narrative.
Rounding out the cast are Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia. While their specific roles remain undisclosed, we do know that Chiwetel embodies the character of Clark, and Renate will likely portray the therapist tasked with locating her absent patient.

Renate Reinsve
For some time, Renate’s participation in Backrooms had been shrouded in mystery. She recently took a role in Sentimental Value, a film nominated for an Academy Award, and is particularly celebrated for her work in Presumed Innocent. The Norwegian actress garnered nominations for a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, and an Academy Award.

Chiwetel Ejiofor
Chiwetel is portraying Clark and has featured in a plethora of movies. Among his most recognized roles are those in Love Actually, Four Brothers, Children of Men, Endgame, 2012, Salt, The Martian, Doctor Strange, and Venom: The Last Dance.
As a seasoned performer with years in the industry, Chiwetel has been honored with several distinctions, including a British Academy Film Award and a Laurence Olivier Award. He’s additionally received nominations for an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and five Golden Globe Awards.
Mark Duplass
Mark is well-acquainted with the realm of horror films. As the co-founder of Duplass Brothers Productions, he co-authored and starred in the Creep film series, along with its spin-off, The Creep Tapes, where he played the same serial killer character.
This filmmaker, actor, and musician is also acclaimed for his appearances in Greenberg, The Lazarus Effect, Togerness, Tully, and, more recently, The Morning Show, earning him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Finn Bennett
Analogous to many of his fellow actors, Finn’s role in Backrooms remains unclear, but he’s highly recognized for his starring role in True Detective: Night Country and, most recently, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. He was also honored with the Trophée Chopard at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Lukita Maxwell
Lukita is an emerging talent in the movie world, having played roles in HBO’s Generation and Apple TV’s Shrinking. She also made an appearance in The Young Wife.
Avan Jogia
Following his breakthrough on Nickelodeon’s Victorious, Avan proceeded to star in numerous acclaimed shows, such as Twisted, Tut, Ghost Wars, Now Apocalypse, and, most recently, 56 Days.
