The season of awards is clearly underway, with the journey to the 2026 Oscars taking form over several months. The competition began last September during the fall film festival circuit at Venice, Telluride, and Toronto, before picking up pace in January at the Golden Globes, where flicks like Sinners, One Battle After Another, and Hamnet shone as frontrunners. The Critics Choice Awards, SAG Awards, and BAFTAs in February have consistently altered the playing field, aiding in determining which contenders are gaining genuine traction as Oscar night approaches.
The 2026 Academy Awards gala will be held on Sunday, March 15, at the Dolby Theatre located in Los Angeles, California.
Here, Hollywood Life will provide the latest news and updates on the 2026 nominations for the Oscars.

Do the Golden Globes Foretell the Oscar Winners?
Not inevitably. It’s essential to remember that the Golden Globe Awards are not a dependable indicator of Oscar victors. Nevertheless, during nearly every awards cycle, performers, producers, artists, and movies that have amassed the most nods and/or victories often secure an Academy Award.
Last year’s awards season was marked by a few surprises. One of the biggest was when Anora lead Mikey Madison secured the Oscar for Best Actress, besting Demi Moore for her performance in The Substance. As Demi had previously accepted the Golden Globe, most people anticipated that she would receive her initial Academy Award.
Both Mikey and Demi made certain to publicly applaud each other, in the time leading up to and following the 2025 Oscars. Mikey mentioned in her speech that her triumph felt “very surreal.”
“I was raised in Los Angeles, but Hollywood invariably seemed so far away to me, so being present here, standing in this room today is sincerely unbelievable,” the Scream star stated. “I also just want to give recognition to the thoughtful, bright, stunning, and magnificent efforts of my fellow nominees. I’m honored to be acknowledged alongside all of you. This marks the fulfillment of a dream.”
