Virginia Giuffre emerged as a notable figure among those accusing Jeffrey Epstein of sex trafficking and played a key role in the worldwide examination of his offenses. Back in 2019, she participated in a widely broadcasted interview with the BBC, asserting that, as a teenager, Epstein had trafficked her, forcing her to engage in sexual activity with Prince Andrew on multiple instances in the early 2000s — allegations Andrew has consistently refuted.
In February 2022, Prince Andrew consented to resolve Giuffre’s civil claim of sexual assault without admitting fault, as reported by the Washington Post. Legal filings detailed that he would donate significantly to Giuffre’s charity, aiding the rights of victims, and recognized her suffering as an abuse victim, along with enduring public criticism. She Stated That She Encountered Prince Andrew Via Jeffrey Epstein
In her public declarations and the 2019 BBC interview, Virginia contended that she came to know Prince Andrew via Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell during her time as a trafficked teenager. Epstein possessed various properties, including residences in locations such as New York, London, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, where Giuffre recounted being taken during the period when she says the maltreatment took place.
Giuffre further maintained she was compelled to dance with Andrew at a London establishment before one of the alleged occurrences. Characterizing the event, she conveyed it was “horrendous” and asserted that he was profusely sweating as they danced. Prince Andrew has refuted all claims, and Epstein passed away in prison in 2019, awaiting adjudication on federal charges of sex trafficking. “It was horrendous, and the guy was dripping sweat on me; it was like raining,” she recalled.
She Detailed a Supposed Meeting With Prince Andrew During a 2019 Interview
In a December 2019 conversation with the BBC, Giuffre alleged she was made to engage in sexual intercourse with Prince Andrew at 17, depicting the initial supposed encounter as “quick and revolting.” She expressed that the episode left her with sensations of “shame and defilement.”
Giuffre stated she was being trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein at that period and claimed that Ghislaine Maxwell gave her instructions to “do for Andrew what I do for Jeffrey.” Prince Andrew has constantly rejected these accusations. Prince Andrew Disclaimed the Accusations Despite a Widely Shared Photograph
The image originated at Epstein’s residence in New York sometime between 2001 and 2002, displaying Prince Andrew with a grin and his arm encircling her waist. Maxwell is also seen smiling in the backdrop. He challenged all of Virginia’s assertions throughout his November 2019 Newsnight interview. “It did not transpire. I can definitively assure you it never occurred,” the duke stated. During the awkward interview, reportedly set up by his daughter, Princess Beatrice, he presented the curious argument that he could not have been “sweating profusely” on Virginia, as he was experiencing a health ailment then that made it impossible for him to sweat.
She Publicly Refuted Prince Andrew’s Rejections
Subsequent to Prince Andrew’s denial of her claims in his 2019 BBC Newsnight interview, Virginia responded in her own BBC appearance. “He is cognizant of what transpired, I am cognizant of what transpired. And only one among us is being truthful, and I am aware it is myself,” she asserted.
Reacting to what she labeled as his “justifications,” Giuffre further commented, “I’m calling BS on this, because that’s precisely what it constitutes.” Andrew has persisted in negating the accusations, and the civil matter was concluded in 2022 without any acknowledgement of responsibility.
Buckingham Palace Rejected Her Claims and Legal Consequences Followed
Buckingham Palace voiced a strong denial of Giuffre’s claims in their announcement to CNN, stating, “It is emphatically refuted that The Duke of York engaged in any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts. Every allegation stating otherwise is unfounded and inaccurate.”
Following Prince Andrew’s contentious 2019 Newsnight discussion, he relinquished his public royal roles. In 2022, Queen Elizabeth II removed his military ranks and royal endorsements, and he later resolved Giuffre’s civil litigation without owning up to liability. Over the years, reissued documents linked to the Epstein issue have persistently maintained Giuffre’s accusations, along with Andrew’s involvement, in the ongoing public discourse.
