Why Was Sherrone Moore Fired and Arrested?

Moore was terminated by the University of Michigan on December 10, 2025, after an internal inquiry uncovered “reliable evidence” suggesting he was involved in an improper liaison with a colleague.

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been relieved of his duties, with cause, effective immediately,” Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel announced in December 2025. “Subsequent to a University probe, trustworthy evidence was discovered indicating that Coach Moore participated in an unsuitable connection with a staff member. Such behavior represents an unambiguous breach of University policy, and U-M enforces zero tolerance for such conduct.”

Soon after his dismissal, Moore was apprehended following an occurrence involving the same colleague. Officials later charged him with minor infractions, encompassing unlawful entry and wrongful use of a telecommunications device. In April 2026, Moore entered a plea of no contest to the accusations and was given probation, thus averting incarceration.

“At present, the investigation is still in progress,” a statement from the Pittsfield Township police declared, according to CNN. “In light of the character of the claims, the necessity to preserve the integrity of the investigation, and its current status presently, we are prohibited from divulging additional specifics. More details concerning the episode will be released as soon as permissible.”
