Pierre Deny passed away at the age of 69 following a struggle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly referred to as ALS. The acclaimed French performer was primarily recognized within his native country but achieved global acclaim after his participation in Netflix’s popular series *Emily in Paris* in 2022 and 2024.
In a declaration conveyed through the newswire AF, Deny’s daughters shared, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Pierre Deny this Monday (May 25), following a swift and severe progression of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).”
Given that Deny’s ailment was reportedly “swift and severe,” many are seeking further details about the condition — the same affliction that Eric Dane contended with. Here is what is known about ALS.

Who Was Pierre Deny?
Deny was a French actor esteemed for his contributions to both stage and screen. His performance career commenced in the 1980s, and he subsequently began securing roles in television productions.
In addition to *Emily in Paris*, Deny was recognized for his roles in *Under the Sun*, *Une Femme d’Honneur*, *Cinq Soeurs*, *Plus Belle La Vie*, and *Tomorrow Is Ours*.
What Is ALS?
As per the Mayo Clinic, ALS, also identified as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a degenerative neurological disorder that impacts the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. The disease typically manifests initially with muscle spasms, limb weakness, difficulties with swallowing, and/or impaired speech.
The symptoms progressively worsen over time, and there is currently no known cure for ALS. It is a terminal condition.

Co-star Paul Forman offered a tribute to his late colleague via an Instagram Stories post shortly after the announcement of Deny’s death in May 2026.
