Did Kurt Cobain Die by Suicide or Homicide?

Cobain’s death classification remains suicide. A representative from the Medical Examiner’s Office informed the Daily Mail in February 2026, “King County Medical Examiner’s Office collaborated with regional law enforcement, executed a thorough autopsy, and adhered to every protocol in arriving at the determination that the manner of death was suicide. Our detective determined his passing to be a suicide, and this stance is consistently maintained by this entity.”

However, freelance investigator Michelle Wilkins disclosed to the Daily Mail in February 2026 she possessed cause to suspect someone else had murdered him.

“Elements within the autopsy provoke questions, such as, this person didn’t expire rapidly from a gunshot,” Wilkins conveyed to the outlet, spotlighting organ damage tied to oxygen deficiency. “Brain and liver necrosis manifests in overdoses, not shotgun fatalities,” Wilkins elaborated.

She further stated, “In my view, it appears someone orchestrated a scene to definitively present the situation as a suicide. The gun receipt is in his pocket, alongside the shell receipt. The shells are neatly positioned at his feet.”

“We are expected to believe he recapped the needles and tidied up post injecting himself thrice, a behavior incongruent with someone on the verge of death,” Wilkins maintained. “Suicides are untidy, but this setting was exceptionally orderly.”
