On May 25, 2023, Steinfeld was seen in New York City alongside Allen, mere weeks following reports of a potential separation between the sportsman and his longtime love, Brittany Williams, who he had been with since 2015. As per photos released by the New York Post, Allen was observed with his arm around the True Grit performer ahead of an evening out.
Later in the month, Steinfeld and Allen partook in a sushi dinner at Sushi By Bou in Chelsea alongside acquaintances, a moment chronicled on Facebook by the restaurant’s originator, Michael Sinensky.
“More admirers of el chapo @chefsergio_nyc. We appreciate your ongoing support, Josh Allen from the Bills, for visiting whenever you’re in town and enjoying Sushi By Bou,” Sinensky penned, also noting, “And thanks for presenting newcomers Hailee Steinfeld and friends to the #chelsea #nyc experience.”

Following their appearances in New York, a number of sources verified to different media sources that Steinfeld and Allen had commenced a relationship.
An insider mentioned to Us Weekly that Hailee and Josh had been an item for around a month, were clicking well together, and were “always smiling” and “laugh[ing] a lot” when together.
Another individual with knowledge of Steinfeld divulged to PEOPLE that the pair were “still dating and continuing to understand one another.”
August 2023
When he was a guest on the Pardon My Take podcast, Allen initially tried to circumvent any discussion of his new relationship with Steinfeld. He did, however, respond to headlines indicating that he was “making out with his girlfriend” by saying, “I am still amazed that anybody is concerned about that.”
He also let on that it evokes a “gross feeling” in him when photographers make attempts to record private moments involving him and Steinfeld.

Steinfeld had not yet made their relationship official, but a photo of her with Allen’s mother, Lavonne, and the owner of Leveled Up Buffalo, a local business, was posted on Instagram.

On October 8, Steinfeld was noticed in the audience at Allen’s Buffalo Bills game in London, during which cameras focused on F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, who was seated just to her left.

Then, on October 13, the pair made their first recognized appearance together at the Buffalo Sabres versus New York Rangers hockey match at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. Steinfeld and Allen were seen observing the season opener from an exclusive suite.

January 2024
A reporter asked Steinfeld at the 2024 Golden Globes how she was experiencing the event, while exhibiting a No. 14 Bills jersey. She merely expressed, “Real good,” and started to leave, before circling back to shout, “Wrong number though!” (The No. 14 jersey belongs to Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs, not Allen’s No. 17.)
Later in the month, Steinfeld was observed driving in Laguna Niguel, California, with Allen, only a week after the Bills’ season concluded with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
July 2024
After one year of seeing each other, Allen verified his relationship with Steinfeld with a July 23 Instagram post.
“Onward 🤘🏼,” the sportsman captioned a series of snapshots from his summer, among them one of the pair in Paris and another from a family gathering.

October 2024
On October 12, the pair made an appearance at the inaugural Shakir Family Pet Adoption Event in Buffalo, New York. Steinfeld can be seen snapping a photo of Allen cradling one of the dogs available for adoption in footage posted on social media.
On October 18, Steinfeld recounted a tale in issue No. 11 of her “Beau Society” newsletter about how she and Allen narrowly avoided some misfortune after mistakenly purchasing the identical Christmas present for one another: a Miyabi Kaizen chef’s knife.
“After we exchanged our knives lol, he told me there’s an old wives’ story that if you give your significant other a knife, you must pay for it; otherwise, it represents the breaking off of a relationship,” she penned in the newsletter, through Sports Illustrated. “So, we traded quarters to prevent that unfavorable omen.”
Later that month, on October 28, Steinfeld and Allen served as co-hosts for a Halloween celebration for the Buffalo Bills players and their partners. Steinfeld and Allen both played the part of ringmasters for the circus-themed gathering.

The couple announced their engagement on November 30, sharing an Instagram photo of Allen down on bended knee, proposing surrounded by candles and beneath a sizable flower-covered arch. The caption implied that the proposal took place a little over a week earlier, on Nov. 22, with the date “♾️ 11•22•24 ♾️.”
