The death of the former Grey’s Anatomy star brought sadness to admirers, colleagues, and his inner circle. The Dane family verified Eric’s passing through an announcement given to People.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce Eric Dane’s death on Thursday afternoon after a valiant fight with ALS,” the announcement conveyed. “He spent his last moments in the company of close companions, his supportive spouse, and his two precious daughters, Billie and Georgia, who meant the world to him. During his struggle with ALS, Eric became a fervent supporter for awareness and research, determined to positively impact others facing the same ordeal. He will be remembered fondly and dearly missed forever. Eric was grateful for his fanbase and is forever thankful for the immense affection and backing he’s been shown. The family has requested privacy as they deal with this incredibly difficult period.”

It typically manifests through involuntary muscle contractions and/or muscle weakness, challenges in swallowing, or incoherent speech. It’s known as a terminal condition.
In his final year, Eric stayed committed to spreading consciousness about his ailment. He publicly shared his diagnosis during April of 2025 through a statement made to People.
“I’ve been identified as having ALS,” the actor stated during that period. “I am so lucky to be surrounded by my caring family as we progress through this upcoming stage. I am lucky enough that I am still able to be employed and am excited to get back on the set of Euphoria in the coming week. I respectfully ask that you grant my family and myself our privacy during this period.”
